Welcome Hazel | Homewood, AL | Newborn Photography

A little family back story: Not long after Emery and Heather got married, Kent and I wagered with them a small bet on who would have a baby last. Years went on, our other cousins were having children, but us 4 were hanging on to our dog only households. Lo and behold, Kent and I were the ones that “caved” first. Not long before Walt was born, Heather announced her pregnancy! Now, Walt & Hazel will be 5 months apart and we can’t wait to see them play together as they grow.

Congratulations to Heather, Emery, and “big brother” Dakota! Stay tuned, soon you’ll see Hazel debut on the blog!

To say Jennifer & I go back is an understatement. We grew up in the same church, school and eventually ended up going to the same college (Roll Tide!). I am thrilled to document Jemma’s first year along with her sweet parents. Jennifer decorated Jemma’s nursery with such special attention paid to detail. The sterling silver cups, the pairs of shoes…the history of this family is evident in her nursery.

Congratulations to Les & Jennifer! Now, let’s marvel at beautiful Jemma!

It’s a new year. Let’s take a different approach for a moment. Maybe longer than a moment…we’ll see.

What I wanted for this shoot was simple; real emotion with minimal editing. The Simmons family is very near & dear to our little family. We live a block away, weekends are usually spent together, we’ve claimed Henry as our own…we love them. The advantage of knowing them so well is that I can easily tap into what they’re really like & let that play out in front of my camera. And isn’t that the whole point? The point of portraiture is to truly tap into the core of what makes your family what it is.

Why do I share all of this? Why not just write a few nice words about this family & that be that? Because posts like this always resonate with me as a reader. Because I’m exploring different ways of presenting these blogs to you faithful readers so that you can get a real sense of each shoot; so that you can really get to know each subject; so that you can really get to know me.

2012…it’s feeling good.
