Introducing Riley Alexis! Back in the Fall, her Mama & Daddy debuted on the blog for their maternity session at a carnival. Have a look back here. Riley was born just before Christmas & was such a joy to photograph. She’s got her Daddy wrapped around her little finger already. Being a baseball player, we had to honor that with his new baby girl! Riley will be making frequent appearances on the blog, as I am documenting her whole first year. What a thrill!
Enjoy this sweet girl and her family!

The Buzz | Pinterest, Fringe & InstagramJanuary 12th, 2012Going with the whole “It’s a new year! Time to refresh & do something new.”, I’d like to kick start that idea with something new to the blog. Going with the whole “It’s a new year! Time to refresh & do something new.”, I’d like to kick start that idea with something new to the blog. The Buzz! It’s starting out with a few things that I’m lovin’ these days. It won’t always be things that stir my affections, but maybe some behind the scenes action, FAQ, maybe a few personal photography projects! Alright, let’s dive right in!

I open my computer.
Check my email, Facebook, Twitter, celebrity gossip sites & take a quick peek at Pinterest.
An hour goes by & I’m somehow still on Pinterest. If you’ve been living under a rock, Pinterest is a virtual bulletin board & every girls addiction. This is the perfect spot to get to know me; my style, favorite movies/tv/music, what makes me laugh, what inspires me.
If you’re already on Pinterest, come follow me and see what’s catching my eye! If not, request your invite right now! Get ready, it’s awesome!

I have a confession to make. This confession makes me way behind the times & I’m only a little bit okay with it. I don’t have a smartphone. This makes things like checking emails, tweeting, facebooking or looking cool, difficult. Of course, I have a system. My wonderful husband got me an iPod touch last year & has since regretted it! I LOVE it! But, hands down my favorite thing to use my iPod for is Instagram! The photos look like crap, but I think that’s just part of the fun! If you’re a follower you’ll notice that our dog, Heidi, is a frequent subject…so is food. Here are a few highlights from this past year:
There you have it, The Buzz! I think this is gonna be awesome!

I’ve been sitting on the session for far too long! That’s the downside of Christmas mini sessions…I have to wait until after Christmas.
Charlie first made his appearance on the blog last year for his 1 year shoot. So, I was thrilled to get to photograph this ham again. He LOVES all the attention! The sillier the noise, the better. Animal crackers played a pretty large role in these. If you look closely, you’ll catch a glimpse of his snack gripped securely in his tiny hands.
Charlie’s mama, Anna, owns the beautiful children’s clothing store, Grandmother’s Joy, in Crestline Village & Sweet Dreams Designs. One of the things I look forward to the most with this family is what Anna decides to dress Charlie in. This session did not disappoint! Classic, English, adorable.
This weekend, January 12-15, at Grandmother’s Joy, there will be an heirloom clothing trunk show! These pieces are beautiful & are perfect for Easter weekend and upcoming Easter pictures. I’ll also be there this weekend offering special pricing for those who book sessions in the store! We’re very excited & hope to see you there!

The Simmons Family | Mountain Brook, AlJanuary 5th, 2012It’s a new year. Let’s take a different approach for a moment. Maybe longer than a moment…we’ll see. It’s a new year. Let’s take a different approach for a moment. Maybe longer than a moment…we’ll see.
What I wanted for this shoot was simple; real emotion with minimal editing. The Simmons family is very near & dear to our little family. We live a block away, weekends are usually spent together, we’ve claimed Henry as our own…we love them. The advantage of knowing them so well is that I can easily tap into what they’re really like & let that play out in front of my camera. And isn’t that the whole point? The point of portraiture is to truly tap into the core of what makes your family what it is.
Why do I share all of this? Why not just write a few nice words about this family & that be that? Because posts like this always resonate with me as a reader. Because I’m exploring different ways of presenting these blogs to you faithful readers so that you can get a real sense of each shoot; so that you can really get to know each subject; so that you can really get to know me.
2012…it’s feeling good.
(Take a look back. Them in 2009 & 2010.) They’ll be making an additional appearance within the year. Many things happening behind the scenes!)

I would describe this newborn session in one word: Colorful. Emmet’s mama has their home decorated with vibrant colors and
wanted the photos to reflect that. Newborn sessions are my favorite, this particular one is a special one.
You see, before Emmet was born, I nannied his brother, Liam. News of the pregnancy was met with much excitement, but also a little trepidation. When Liam was born, he came quite a bit early, so the fear was that Emmet would follow suit. After months of bed rest and a few hospital stays, Emmet was born the evening of November 2nd. He was perfect. Camera in hand, Liam & I went to meet Emmet an hour after he was born.
A few days later, it was time for some proper newborn photos to be taken. Little Em was the most content, soundly sleeping baby I’ve photographed. I think the squished lips are my favorite! These days, he LOVES being held, watching his brother run circles around him & of course the wonderfully embarrassing, baby talk!
This is such a special family to me & I’m happy to be a part of it.
